It is located between Cornelis Bay in the west and Caracas Bay in the east. Jan Thiel is a free beach that was built by the nearby resorts. It is the only beach on Curacao, which was largely artificially created. It is largely made up of a huge concrete tank in the sea displaying ocher sand.
